2025-08-23, Tried making peach compote for the first time, and enjoyed the always-delicious Buldak Bokkeummyeon.
Starting the day,
For breakfast, I had kimchi stew with instant rice (Hetbahn).
The peach you see above is a nectarine that my wife received as a gift from a friend, but it wasn’t fully ripe yet, so it didn’t taste great.
You might wonder why we had fruit in the morning, but my wife is currently pregnant.
Eating fruit really helps ease her morning sickness.
As soon as I finished my meal, I went out to do some grocery shopping.
This is the bag they gave me when I signed up for a Costco membership.
They gave me two bags: one insulated cooler bag and one regular bag.
Both are quite sturdy and durable, so I use them very well.
The road to Costco was more congested than I expected.
It turned out that a traffic light ahead was broken, and the police were directing traffic manually.
Seeing the road get blocked while the police were directing made me realize again how much the traffic lights usually help keep things moving smoothly.
I don’t have any photos of the groceries I bought at Costco.
Next time, I’ll make sure to take some.
The photo above shows instant noodles displayed at a supermarket called Homeplus.
I’m surprised by how many varieties of instant noodles there are now.
Especially, the Carbo Buldak Bokkeummyeon, which is very popular overseas, is also the most popular one here in Korea.
I bought it right away because my wife wanted to eat it.
These are the things I bought today.
While checking out at the supermarket, I saw Krispy Kreme doughnuts displayed at the counter, so I ended up buying some right away.
I also bought a glass container for peach compote, bleach, and drain cleaner at a store called Daiso.
When I stop by Costco, the first thing I buy is the Terra vegetable chips.
Eating those chips helps keep my digestion smooth.
As soon as I got home, it was lunchtime, so I immediately cooked Carbo Buldak Bokkeummyeon.
The recipe is as follows:
Boil the noodles with water.
Drain the water.
Add milk and the sauce, then boil for a little longer.
Add mozzarella cheese and eat it together.
The taste is very, very delicious.
It’s no surprise that it’s popular worldwide.
I especially like to eat Carbo Buldak Bokkeummyeon topped with young radish kimchi (yeolmu kimchi).
The refreshing tanginess of the yeolmu kimchi cleanses the palate from the rich and creamy flavors of the Buldak Bokkeummyeon and milk.
At home, I have a fish tank where the aquatic plants are growing very well.
One thing I wonder about is that even though I keep doing water changes, those white things keep appearing on the water surface.
I’m not sure what the problem is, but since the fish, shrimp, and plants are all thriving, it doesn’t seem to be a big issue.
It’s just annoying to scoop them out with a net every time.
The laundry always piles up a lot,
but thanks to the washing machine and dryer, the workload has been greatly reduced.
Still, folding the laundry is a very annoying task.
Since the peaches didn’t taste good and my wife wouldn’t eat them,
I made peach compote.
Once it’s made into compote, we’ll eat it together with yogurt.
For a first try, it turned out pretty well.
To get the color of the syrup, boil the peach skins at the beginning and then remove them.
Tonight’s dinner is pork neck meat.
I applied the water boiling method to the meat, based on what I learned from cooking sausages.
The inside was very tender,
and the outside was crispy, making it incredibly delicious.
I recommend everyone reading this to try water boiling their meat too.
This is stir-fried kimchi that I bought while grocery shopping.
In Korea, side dish shops are well established, so people usually buy these kinds of side dishes rather than make them at home.
This side dish is braised burdock root, but it was a failure.
It’s too sweet.
I guess it’s not good to rely too much on side dish shops either.
This is a big problem.
The bananas got so ripe that the peels all fell off.
I quickly searched on YouTube for storage tips and found out that slicing and freezing them works.
